It is a unique moment to consider and take action in Industry 4.0 and even 5.0 (as promised for Industry 4.0) in the Zoon Politikon journal. From the first DOS systems and computer games to advanced robots and prostheses, when the debate flares up about law and ethics of introduced innovations, intelligent algorithms and self-driving cars, human realizes that technology is ahead of his thinking.
Research and academic centers introduce software and applications to help researchers collect and unpack big data. The very same situation happens in advertising or marketing agencies, in large international companies, where even hiring new employees is done using applications and digital communicators. In everyday life, digital tools and algorithms gain more and more significance. Famously, Manuel Castells proclaimed this technological revolution and wrote that they are comparable with those that ushered in the modern age. However, humanistic thought did not follow as fast as developing artificial "thinking" algorithms, robots working for humans, even the revolution in synthetic biology (science and neuroscience). We are at the moment when it is necessary to undertake the scientific debate of the digital world – our world – which people stop understanding.
We would like to invite you to discuss technological changes through the eyes of humanists, sociologists, psychologists, artists, researchers, programmers and all those who are trying to create and co-create the world of 4.0 and predict the next Industry 5.0.
We are inviting papers that might address, among other topics, the following areas:
digitization of reality from many scientific perspectives: psychological, sociological, pedagogical, historical, ethical, philosophical, and many others, which show the dilemmas of the digital social world;
different perspectives of human-robot interaction, and the future in augmented and virtual reality communication;
the case studies, ethnographical investigations, autoethnographies, comparative research, historical analysis – studies including artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, deep learning, neurosciences, nanotechnologies, NLP, synthetic biology, digital medicine, and more;
digital art and transformation in whole artistic world – the usage of development of projects such as Nospai, Shortlyai or many advanced image recognition apps;
qualitative and quantitative research in the online world – tools, application, forecast of intellectual development with the usage of digital tools;
crises in the digital world: identification and personal identity, gender perspective and development, refugee crisis, migration and displacement, pandemic crisis and maladic discourses; misinformation, diffusion of information and fake-news in social networks; climate crisis, ethical and legal defying embryonic and robotic technology;
the new forms of leadership and work methodologies and practices in the digital society, technological unemployment and replacement of the human workforce by artifice intelligence; utopian and dystopian visions of technological influence on social life and their basis in research.
The above list of issues is only indicative ⸻ we are open to all proposals within the broad thematic scope suggested in the title. In case of any doubts, please contact the editorial office or thematic editor of the issue.
