The last 5 years has seen the landscape of games and interactive media changing. The complexity and resource hungry nature of the development process has led developers and researchers to reconsider the standard paradigm of the construction of content. This has been combined with a change in the way that people interact with both games and other forms of interactive media. They are more demanding of the output and desire that the boundaries of visualisation, sound and mechanics are pushed to the limits. This has led to innovation in the development of interactions with content and the use of means to adapt current content to individual groups and single individuals themselves.
The objective of this special issue is to collect and report on recent high quality research that addresses different areas related to the application of adaptive and contextually informed content within games and interactive media. These include but are not limited to:
• Ethics of Adaptation and Contextual Content.
• Frameworks / Tools for Adaptation and Contextual Content.
• Game and Interactive Media Music.
• Game and Interactive Media Narrative.
• Game and Interactive Media Aesthetics.
• Game and Interactive Media Design.
• Game Mechanics.
• Game Strategy.
• Computational Intelligence for Adaptation and Context.
• Player / User Data Analysis.
• Physiological Analysis.
• Procedural Generation.
• Internationalisation.
• User Behaviour.
• VR / AR / XR.
High quality contributions addressing related theoretical and practical aspects are expected.
