Software startups, referred as teams or organizations that have little operating history,
limited resources, and operate under multiple influences and dynamic technologies
and market. Recent development in sharing economies and mobile technology leads
to a rapidly increased popularity of software startups. Besides, increasing numbers of
accelerators, incubators and advisors provide the “know-how” entrepreneurial
formation, enabling new ways of starting up software business, such as angle
investors, fund crowdsourcing, global startups, etc.
Despite of numerous available software development methodologies, many software
startups are still experiencing problems of lacking systematic methodologies on
business, product, team and market development. Practitioners and entrepreneurs are
still struggling in probing processes with little learnt from research findings and
startup peers. Consequently, the question is how to extract and to synthesize
knowledge from software startups, and contribute a guideline to increase
entrepreneurial success rates.
We invite original submissions on technological, methodological and operational
perspectives on software startups, but not limited to, the following topics:
o Failure (or success) factors of software startups survival, commercialization
and scale-up
o Teamwork issues in software startups, i.e. collaboration, coordination,
leadership, and co-foundership
o Software startup decision making support
o Impact of new technological trends on software startups
o Lean startup concepts and their implication to software business
o Application of lean startup approach in different industry domains
o Underlying theories/principles for software startups
o Software Requirement engineering in software startups
o Agile approaches in software startups
o Practices of user involvement in software startups
o Challenges and opportunities in financing software startups
o The relationship between business models and software development
o Software startup ecosystems
o Global and cultural aspects of software startups
