The peer-reviewed scholarly journal The Digital Scholar: Philosophers Lab and the Department of Philosophy of Lobachevsky State University (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia) invite researchers to take part in the call for interdisciplinary scholarly papers.

This call is conceived by the organizers as a regular format of scientific communication. In this, we welcome researchers from various fields of academic knowledge to offer a philosophical and other scholarly analysis of the topic. You can present both general theoretical papers and studies of cases, phenomena and trends.

The 2025 call for papers topic: Coevolution between humans and technos: Is it possible?

Brief description. William F. Ogburn proposed the theory of cultural lag, which suggests that technology and inventions tend to change more rapidly than beliefs, values, and social institutions. This creates a period of “lag” as societies adjust to new technologies, potentially leading to social issues and maladjustment. Resistance to progress and innovation exists for some time, but, in general, it may not affect the overall picture. However, as known, there are entire worldview trends that develop a philosophy of resistance to technologization, opposed to the supporters of digital-technological progress, transhumanism programs, etc. Those who yesterday spoke out against mobile phones and smartphones today are comprehending the threat of neural networks. Yet, do new technologies pose only a threat? It is obvious that, with all the criticism of technologies, it is hardly possible to safely abandon them. Perhaps it is more productive to talk about coevolutionary interaction between humanity and technos? If so, how can we interpret such coevolution? Are there any successful examples? What fruits will it bear?

The best papers on the analysis of the problem of coevolution will be published in the journal The Digital Scholar: Philosophers Lab.
